Beth Pinzur: A Lifetime of Creativity

I was a happy child, in spite of everything.

Thoughtful, creative, adventurous, kind, and “unique”, I found solace in authenticity.

I was a depressed teenager.

“Everything” had caught up with me.

I survived by immersion in nature, music and other creative expression, and an insatiable love of learning.

Early adulthood allowed escape.

From emotional neglect and a family history of violence, from a religion that sanctioned lies and fostered oppression, and from a profound belief in my own worthlessness.

Travel, education, art, and my first experience of unconditional love, taught me courage.

My late 20s brought healing.

From the trauma, betrayal, and depression that I had long believed to be a part of who I was.

I rediscovered hope, connection, creativity, agency, and curiosity.

And now…

As I move through the world with authenticity, courage, and curiosity, I find that my experiences are inextricably tied to queerness, anauralia and aphantasia, neurodivergence, and synesthesia. The result is an endlessly rich and surprising internal world: an infinite source of creative inspiration…
